Foxes jumping on a trampolene

A friend posted this on facebook it's adorable, had to share

Xmas wishlist

There's so many things to want! I'm wanting to buy things that aren't from chain stores as much and support grassroots stuff and companies that contribute positively to the world. As much as I love chain stores I really want to buy less from them as there's been a few cases about stealing copyrighted material and of coarse sweat shops and all that.

friendships

Its such a beautiful day! I'm going to the Hyde Park noodle market later should be fun!

But with that said I'm having a hard time not letting some politics of friendship get to me.
I used to have this friend who was practically a sister but things changed and it's bean years and I still feel upset about it all. It's at that point where i wish it was black and white... that I want her around or not at all, to just forget. I want to forget.

but with that said i hope that will fill my rant fix for the day so I can get on and enjoy myself instead of feeling angry!

I'm off to go listen to Animal collective reaaally loud

Wednesday

this morn i found a little "artwork" i did a few months ago in a frame, A few months ago i kept finding  wild Budgie, Lorikeet and Indian Myna ( not a good bird...) feathers around my backyard so i teamed it up with lyrics from my favourite song "Feather" by Little Dragon typed in my favourite typeface in the world which happens to be my typewriter (could I get anymore cliche...feathers, art, typewriters ha ha).

and i stripped the covering of my dress form as it was getting holey, which is to be expected after 40 or so years, I'm going to cover it in a layer of padding( so that pins can take hold) and then some cream knit fabric or something.

and a picture of my girl Nutella for good measure, I don't want to keep the cuteness to myself :)

Have a good Wednesday guys!

culinary delight: Helva

one of the perks we all share in our household is that Mum's co-workers are from all sorts of places around the world and give her gifts, sometimes it's Lindt chocolate ( which I thankfully can't eat anymore) and sometimes its stuff we've never heard of.

A few days ago mother brought something home that even i can enjoy. HALVA!

I'd never heard of it before but it's a sweet made from sesame seeds (tahini) and sugar basically, the one we got is greek but apparently tis desert is served through india, asia, nth africa and through the jewish world.

It's sweet and flakey and floury but yum. At first a little strange then taste hits you

I'm enjoying the beginning of my foray into the food that exists in this world, how much we are missing out Im sure!

Humanity

I figure that one of the true measures of a person is how they treat those "less important" to themselves, even mum has mentioned in the past that she wonders if how you treat animals is the real ticket into heaven

I may be missing out yummy things like potato bake and milk chocolate but the taste of sparing just a few beautiful animals from the horror that goes into food production much sweeter, and surpasses the time it takes to eat a chocolate bar.

I keep finding myself thinking of things to say when people ask why I'm vegan, I'm having trouble coming up with things to say that wouldn't be insulting because the way i see it, people eating meat is largely a combination of tradition (it's what you're parents fed you, so why wouldn't it be normal), lack of education and ignorance. See, now who would want to be called ignorant and uneducated. not me ha ha!

I recommend watching this film, narrated by Jaoquin Phoenix about life, food and animals.

Sometimes you need to force yourself to see whats really going on, to be educated on something so integral to your life, and just because you buy something at the supermarket doesn't mean you arn't a part of the killing.

I don't have a smooth way with words, I'm good at offending but what good am I if i can't contribute positively to this world.

how much value can I put on my own life if sustaining it meant many others would die?

I have lots of work to do, some due every day, I'm pretty behind, It's not hard to get behind when you don't like the subject you're working on.

Iphone covers and Skins

I just realised Society6 has iphone cover and skins! wish I knew that before i bought my case off ebay.

I think when I can i'll buy the Pigeon and Kitten one!

time for a lifestyle change

as of today i am VEGAN!!!!!!

I never actually thought I would do it, always thought I can't live without milk or cheese, or eggs ( cake mmm). But today I watched some of Kill it Cook it Eat it, a educational tv show that shows the process of a said meat (veal, pork etc) from the farm to the dinner plate.

I had always thought that being vegetarian was enough and had read about how bad the dairy industry is for animals and felt I should be vegan but it was just too much, until today. As it turns out as a result of dairy farming millions of calves are killed because they are of no use, or they are used for veal. over the past few months i've had a growing affection for cows, where I think they are just as wonderful and beautiful as havng a pet dog, I would even love a pet cow If i could! So seeing what impact my milk drinking has on innocent sentient creatures for my own culinary delight made me think twice, How am I being ethical when  when what i'm eating still supports practices I don't agree with.

and not only that, ever since resuming being vegetarian earlier this year, every time i see a steak or roast on the choping board i see it as it is, a hunk of dead flesh, that would look no different than human flesh. yeah It IS gross.

I almost feel like this was meant to be, Over the past few months all of a sudden i started to like things like mushrooms, lentils and beans, which will comprising a large part of my new diet.

and to be quite honest I am really excited, I feel good, and I am really keen to try out the V friendly restaurants and cafes in Sydney and Melbourne

That is my little story, my "testimony" if you will ha ha.

I hope this hasn't come off sounding preachy, I don't want to be that person but I did want to share this as I think it wuld be a great idea for people to be educated on what they eat and not to take on the "out of mind, out of sight" mentality that is pretty common

peace out

sew motivated

over the past few days I've got into my creative groove, I've succumbed to the cuteness that is flag bunting and my sewing machine has been behaving well enough for me to sew an entire dress in one morning. My sewing machine bobbin thing is playing up right now ($150 sewing machine from Kmart, what do you expect!) so i'm having a little break!

thought i would give a little sneak peak of some of the things i've been doing, I've lost my camera charger so I'm stuck with my phone right now, I'll take proper photos when i get my Iphone ( YAY)

I'm super proud of this dress i made yesterday morning, its a sweetheart neckline bustier backless dress that i based off a Wayne Cooper dress I bought years ago, and I didn't use a pattern!

I am currently making an Iphone case for myself, if my misbehaving sewing machine permits me to!

Do you guys every get in a creative funk and just go mad? I wish I could be this productive all the time
